Emancipation Unit

A program of Cuyahoga County Department Of Children And Family Services

This service helps young adults who aged out of foster care. They can get help applying for food stamps, cash assistance, Medicaid, and Social Security. The service also helps with getting birth certificates and ID, finding jobs, finding housing, mental health counseling, and connecting to other community resources.

Who can use it
You must be between 18 and 21 years old and have aged out of foster care. You must have been in Cuyahoga County's foster care or placed in Cuyahoga County during your foster care years.

What to expect
Call any time, day or night. You will reach a hotline. Choose the option for Child Abuse and Neglect. Tell the person who answers that you are an Emancipated Youth in Need of Assistance. You may need to leave a message. Someone will call you back to set up an appointment with a worker.
