Emergency Financial Assistance

A program of Cuyahoga County Division Of Senior And Adult Services

This program gives up to $500 to help pay gas, electric, sewer, or water bills that are past due or have a disconnect notice. It may also help with rent if you are facing eviction. In some cases, more than $500 may be available depending on your situation.

Who can use it
You must be 60 or older, or between 18-59 with a disability and proof of SSDI. You must have a hardship that is affecting your income - like illness, job loss, or a death in the family. Your income must be at or below 200% of the 2024 Federal Poverty Level. You or someone in your household must already be getting services from DSAS. For utility help, the bill must be in your name and past due or have a disconnect notice. For rent help, you must be facing eviction and have income.

Call to set up an appointment. The application process takes 8-12 weeks, so this is not emergency money. You can only use this service one time.
