You get a voucher to buy or pay for items like rent, security deposits, furniture, beds, mattresses, and clothing. You cannot use the voucher for entertainment items like TVs, washers, dryers, or mortgage payments. You can get up to $1,500 in help per year.

- Who can use it
- You must live in Cuyahoga County and have lost your home or belongings in a fire or a disaster declared by the Governor. Your household income must be 200% of the federal poverty level or less. You must be a parent, caretaker, relative, legal guardian, or legal custodian of a child age 18 or younger living with you, or be pregnant in your third trimester or later. At least one family member must be a U.S. citizen or qualified alien. You must have tried to find help from other community resources first. If you have more than $1,000 in savings, you must use that money first to help pay for what you need.

- What to expect
- Pick up an application at a Job and Family Services Office, the library, or request one by mail from the PRC Hotline. Fill it out and turn it in. The office will decide whether to approve or deny your application within 10 calendar days (sometimes up to 30 days). You will be told the decision in person or by mail within 2 business days. If approved, you pick up your voucher at the Virgil Brown Neighborhood Family Service Center, sign it, and give it to the property owner or seller to complete.
