Summer Cooling Program/Summer HEAP/Summer Crisis Program (Scp)
A program of Step Forward
The program pays toward your electric bill, utility deposits, reconnection fees, or service transfers. It can also help pay for window air conditioners, fans, or repairs to central air conditioning systems. The amount of help depends on your utility company type. You can get one air conditioner unit and up to two fans.

- Who can use it
- Your household income must be at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. For electric bill help, your electricity must be disconnected, threatened with disconnection, or you must be establishing new service. For air conditioners or fans, you must have someone in your household who is 60 or older or has a documented medical condition. You can only receive air conditioner or fan help once every three years. Walk-in help is only available if your service is already disconnected.

- What to expect
- You must apply and upload required documents online at energyhelp.ohio.gov at least five days before your appointment, or your appointment may be rescheduled. Make an appointment online—the agency cannot schedule appointments by phone. You can also join a reconnection waitlist if your power is off and no appointments are available. Walk-ins are available Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon, but only if you are already disconnected and bring all required documents. The program runs from July 1st through September 30th.
